A notable feature of the programme is the resources that are made available to encourage you to develop skills that will be of benefit to you in life and in ministry.
Apostolic Skills
One of the most important skills of all for the Redemptorists is a sound grasp of theology. S o what follows presupposes a deep understanding and love for the word of God in Sacred Scripture, a familiarity with the Church's theology and a firm belief in the efficacious power of God's Spirit working through us in our ministries. In developing certain skills we are merely asking God to make us more fitting instruments of evangelisation.
The first group of skills centre on the fact that the Redemptorist is one "who follows the example of Jesus Christ, the Redeemer, by preaching the word of God to the poor" (Constitution 1).
Preaching Skills
Preparatory: these encompass the whole area of voice production, pronunciation, reading and the ability to write creatively and simply in the Alphonsian tradition.
Writing: covering the principles of rhetoric and the actual composition of sermons, homilies and instructions.
Delivery: which, with today's electronic audio and visual equipment, is more easily recorded live for critical appraisal afterwards.
Besides minister of the word, the priest is also minister of sacraments, around which function centres another cluster of skills to be learned.
