STAGE 1: HELP IS AT HAND

Study- The Challenge and the Helps: There is a personal challenge involved in studying.

Can I apply myself to study?

Can I learn the discipline of study?

Have I a good method of study?

Am I availing of and using the opportunities which are offered to me here? Am I doing my best or am I half-hearted? Some do not find it easy to adjust to the situation of third level education and may find it a great challenge to organize themselves and apply themselves to work. This is the main challenge involved.

However, the experience of students is that there is a great feeling of satisfaction and they are much happier and contented when they are in control of the situation and working honestly.

What Helps are There?

Each student is recommended to keep a personal timetable so that he can be accountable for the use he makes of his time. The value of this is that it is a great help towards self-management.

There is also a good tradition in the first stage of formation of students helping each other with their studies. There will be plenty of things which a student might find it difficult to understand and he should feel free to ask for help from someone else, a fellow student or the Director of Formation.

SUMMARY

It is part of community living that we help each other, and ask for help. There are also agreed times for study in the house. If anyone is finding it difficult to organize himself, or is feeling bogged down or disheartened about his study, he should discuss this matter with the Director of Formation.
