ABOUT US

The Redemptorists are an international Religious Congregation within the Catholic Church. We have a membership of about 6000 men spread throughout the world. We are gypsy priests and brothers, ready to go and minister or preach wherever the need arises.

We are men of faith whose driving force is the Gospel.

We have a passion for the Gospel and we have a passion for people. We seek to bring those two passions together.Redemptorists live in community sharing with one another our individual gifts, resources and energy.

Prayer is a vital element in our community living.

Several times during the day we meet together to bring our attention back to the very reason for our existence - the God who loves us first.
We have a great sense of belonging to a family that accepts each of us exactly as we are.

This Redemptorist family cares for us and wants the best for each of us. Our houses are happy places to be. We warmly welcome visitors and embrace those who are searching.

The Redemptorist story is one of passion, friendship and faith.

BACKGROUND

In Ireland you will find Redemptorist houses in Belfast, Dundalk, Cork, Limerick, Dublin and Galway.

The best way to introduce the Redemptorists is to identify the person who gave them their start:

St. Alphonsus Liguori, a man of warmth and compassion as well as great determination.

Pope John Paul II described Alphonsus as "a close friend of the people... a writer who focuses on what would be of benefit to the ordinary people. His capacity to express in simple language, accessible to all, the most demanding truths of faith and morals, have spread his teaching to all classes of Christian people".

Even though he belonged to another time and place (18th-century Southern Italy), the main lines of his life-story have been duplicated many times in the lives of his Redemptorist sons.
